Five hours away from Santiago by plane and 180 square kilometers in size, Easter Island is one of the most remote, unique and mysterious archeological sites in the world. With Polynesian overtones and mysterious ancient ruins, Easter Island (Rapa Nui) inspires some very big questions: how did the Pacific Islanders arrive, how did they design and sculpt hundreds of giant Moai from hard volcanic basalt, and how did they move them into positions overlooking the ocean?
Currently, flights run more regularly and availability on the island for accommodations is generally good, except holidays. With only one expensive four-star hotel on the island, the rest of the island’s accommodations are simple, clean and comfortable.
The warm season runs from December through February, and the rainy season is from July to August with shoulder months in between both seasons. For all excursions, you will join other travelers and travel in a small group. You will have an excursion in the morning, and then return to the hotel where you will be on your own for lunch, then an excursion in the afternoon
** We recommend booking your international flights with your Easter Island flights in conjunction with either American Airlines or Lan Chile to get the best rates.
