Peru: Creating with Amazon Arts and Jungle Spirit


Join Connie Grauds and Mark Wangberg, directors of the Living Shaman Museum, on this incredible journey into the Peruvian Amazon as they help you experience true jungle spirit. With their guidance, you’ll make art with natural materials and dyes, visit local artists and craft makers, hear the stories of the shaman and listen to the call of the birds of the Amazon…

ITINERARY at a Glance

Day 1

Depart USA for Lima

Day 2

Arrive Lima and connect with flight to Iquitos (booked separately) Orientation and guided tour of Iquitos

Day 3

Intro class to spinning natural fibers, dyeing and bark cloth at women’s co-op; visit Victor Morey Pena Fine Arts School, meet local Amazon artists, evening visits to indigenous museums

Day 4

Return to co-op to make art, floating house river tour, orientation and preparation for stay in the Amazon lodge

Day 5

Transfer to Yarapa River Lodge, visit small zoo to visit manatees, Amazon orientation and lodge tour, Monkey Island visit, evening welcome ritual

Day 6

Early morning birding, making art at lodge using local materials, class on Amazon plants & indigenous healing, evening group discussion on the “spirit of the Amazon”

Day 7

Jungle walks, art-making and collecting plant materials and natural dyes, river exploration to look for pink dolphins, evening group discussion on the “Spirit of plants”

Day 8

Morning visit to look for and feed monkeys, making art at lodge, afternoon nature walk to see water lilies & sunset on the river

Day 9

Meet indigenous women who create crafts, return to Iquitos after lunch, evening art show and tell

Transfer to airport for flight to Lima (connecting with flight to USA)
