Fairy tale pagodas in cotton candy colors of pink and blue dot the landscape, people cover their face with white powder from the bark of a tree, and clouds and mist cast a romantic tropical haze over the country. It is a country caught in a time warp, isolated from the rest of the world for more than 30 years, and is leaping precipitously into modernity.
This trip covers some of the highlights of Myanmar, traveling from Yangon, at the mouth of the Irawaddy River, up to quaint Loikaw, on to the hill station of Kalaw and down to Inle Lake in Shan State, east to Pindaya; northeast to Mandalay and the ancient kingdom of Amarapura; and south to Bagan, city of 5000 pagodas before returning to Yangon.

Arrive in Yangon. Sunset at Shwedagon. Welcome dinner at Le Planteur.
- Day 2
Hledon Market, Train ride. Visit Botataung Pagoda, and walking tour of city, including colonial buildings, River Gallery, Scotts Market. Htwe Oo Puppet show. Lunch at Pansuriya
- Day 3
Meet the Locals – Ma Cho Lei Aung, Saya U Sai Aung Win, U Bo Took and Ko Zaw Zaw. End with Chinlone lesson.

Fly Loikaw and tour
- Day 5
Tour Loikaw
- Day 6
Drive Kalaw (5 hours)
- Day 7
Kalaw touring – hill tribes
- Day 8
Drive Heho. Visit Taunggyi, market and wine tasting. Drive to Inle Lake.
- Day 9
Tour Inle Lake including Ywar Ma village, cooking lesson, meeting with fisherman, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Inn Paw Khon Village and Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery.
- Day 10
Drive to Pindaya and visit caves.
- Day 11
Visit market and umbrella factory. Fly to Mandalay
- Day 12
Explore Mandalay, including Kuthodaw Paya and Shwendandaw Kyaung, puppetry workshop, jade market, Thein Htike Shin Tapestry and Woodcarving Workshop and Zeigyo market. Visit Kyauktawgyi Paya. Fall – Enjoy Festival. If time, sunset on Mandalay Hill
- Day 13
4AM visit to Mahamuni Temple to wash Buddha. Head out to Amarapura, Sagaing Hills and Inwa
- Day 14
Drive Pakkoku, visiting villages along the way. Take a 2-hour boat ride down the Irawaddy to Bagan.
- Day 15
Balloon over Bagan. Then tour city, including archeological museum, school and pagodas. Home hosted dinner.
- Day 16
More touring in Bagan including market and laquerware. Lunch at Moon Restaurant. PM flight to Yangon
